Hearing at our best is vital to good communication and sharing information. It complements our other senses and our enjoyment of music, discussion, and the sounds in our natural environment. It is normal to expect hearing loss as a part of aging, sometimes slowly and sometimes suddenly, requiring the use of hearing aids or a cochlear implant (CI). Hearing loss typically occurs in the high frequency range that make up soft sounding consonants. Missing soft sounding words can lead to misunderstandings, confusion, and isolation, reducing the quality of life.
